Story

shankardada zindabad Raja (NTR) is a petty thief who abuses Yama Dhrama Raja (Mohan Babu) in an inebriated condition. Yama observes it and makes sure that Raja gets killed in the next few days, though he is entitled for the full life of 100 years. Raja goes to Yamalokam and realizes that he is unjustly killed due to the meanness of Yama. He creates confusion in Yamalokam by stealing Yamapasam as whoever in possession of Yamapasam will become Yama. The rest of the story is all about how senior Yama and Raja try to outsmart each other.

Artists Performance

yamadonga Mohan Babu: It is nice to see Mohan Babu in full form as Yama. His performance and diction in his introduction scene and interval episodes are extraordinary. He once again proved his excellent dialogue delivery skills with this film. His command on pure Telugu is admirable.

yamadonga NTR: You will see a new NTR in this film. He very slim and supple. His dance movements are fluid and effortless. The way he moves his body to seemingly unbelievable dance movement in Nachore song is amazing. He looks handsome and suited the Yama get-up very well and his dialogues in pristine Telugu (grandhikam) in Yama get-up are excellent. On the flip side, his hair style is inconsistent throughout the film.

yamadonga Heroines: Priyamani did the role of main heroine who is the heiress of a crores of rupees but gets exploited by her relatives for money. Her role in this film is little unglamorous. She is just fine. Mamata Mohandas does the role of a masala girl. Though she is alright in that character, her dubbing did not suit the nativity of Nellore dialect. Rambha sizzled in an item song and she is hot. Navaneet Kaur, Preeti Jingyani and Archana did the roles of celestial beauties and appeared in a song. Kushboo did the role of Yama's wife.

yamadongaOthers: Ali contributed a lot to the film in entertainment section. His performance as 'koya bomma' is hilarious. Brahmanandam did the role of Chitra Gupta. Jayaprakash Reddy and Raghubabu did the roles of baddies. Narendra Jha is excellent as the baddie. Naresh suited the role of Naradudu very well.

Technical Departments:

yamadongaStory - screenplay - direction: The basic premise of the film is a typical Yamagola type. The director added different threads that go in parallel with the main thread. Direction of the film is adequate. He introduced and established all characters well. The screenplay should have been better. Here are the following observations on Yamadonga

The interesting points:

1. The thread of medal. The journey of the medal from the beginning of the film to the end of the film is very well conceived.

2. The heated conversation episode between Mohan Babu and NTR before interval is excellent.

The following points cause a bit of uneasy:

1. Yama characterization: Yama is the short form of Yama 'Dharma' Raju. Yama is supposed to be very fair in whatever he does. But the director has shown Yama Dharma Raju as a mean guy who kills a man to take personal revenge against him. If you look at earlier Yama films, it is Chitra Gupa who does the mistake and Yama tries to resolve the issue. But in this film Yama himself makes mistakes completely aware of it which will make Yama Dharma Raja as Yama Adharma Raja.

2. The premise of having mean family members around heroine is pretty old formula.

The writer seems to have got inspired by the following films to write this story

1. Yamagola: The basic concept of a man going to Yamalokam and coming back.

2. Yamudiki Mogudu: The concept of heroine harassed by uncles for her money. (the dual roles in Yamudiki Mogudu film are replaced with heroine (Priyamani) and Hero character.

3. Maya Bazaar: The Yama character has shades of Ghatodgaja in Maya Bazaar film. The introduction part, Yama embodying himself into lady character etc.

4. Snatch: There is a scene in Snatch film where one guy chases another guy. A visual of cheetah chasing a weak animal is simultaneously shown to get more visual splendor. The same technique is used in this film when hero chases a bad guy.

yamadongaArt and special effects: These two departments deserve a special mention. The Yama set is glittering like gold and we have never seen filmy Yamalokam in such a visual splendor. The graphics work is extraordinary. They have taken legend NTR from the old movies and inserted in Yamalokam scenes and it is quite believable and NTR's appearance is cheered with thundering applause. The exterior of Yamalokam set is also very good.

yamadongaOther departments: Cinematography by Senthil Kumar is top-rate. He used the right lighting for all scenes and the camerawork suited the mood of the film. Music by MM Keeravani is another asset. All the songs are good. From the picturization point of view Nachore, Rabbaru Gajulu and Young Yama are excellent. However, the lead scenes to songs are not properly done. Dialogues are adequate (Yama Pasama! Naa Tala Kesama!!) there are some double entendres. Editing is fine. Fights are good. (especially hero intro fight). Production values by Viswamitra creations banner are probably the best ever in Telugu film industry so far. Each frame is visually appealing.

yamadongaAnalysis: First half of the film is entertaining. The second half should have been better. The plus points of the film are Mohan Babu, NTR, sets, cinematography and music. On the flip side, the screenplay of the film is not gripping in second half (after NTR returns to earth). The runtime of the film is pretty lengthy (3.05 hours). Yamadonga is a different film for the mass director Rajamouli. It takes time to sink into the regular moviegoers to know the real verdict.

NTR Rocks in every aspect.Rajamouli created this subject only for NTR.Yamudi ga NTR acting superb.Yamudu ga NTR cheppe dialouges ni Dana Veera Sura Karna lo Legend NTR dialogues,NTR public speeches format lo create chesaru.NTR succeeded in reminding his grand father.Dance gurinchi 'manchi EASE undhi,manchi EASE tho chesadu'ani regular ga vintu untam.But no one knows what it is exactly.EASE ante ento Yamadonga lo NTR dance chusthe artham avuthundhi clear ga.
past 10-12 years lo 2 cinemalu(Pedharayudu,Rayalaseema Ramanna Chowdary)tappa Mohan babu acting talent,dialogue delivery ki tagina cinemalu ,charecters raledhu Mohan babu ki,aa chance malli Yamadonga tho vachindhi.Intelligent casting by Rajamouli,excellent performance by Mohan babu.
E cinema ki Man of the Match Rajamouli.Yamagola,Yamudiki Mogudu,Yamaleela--3 block busters vachina concept ni,andaru chusesina concept ni malli 12 years tarwata kotha ga cheppatam ante easy kadhu.Rajamouli succeeded in narrating it fresh and entertaining .Storywise it is not upto the mark with the above three but entertainment wise it is on par with all the above.That's the magic of Rajamouli.
MM Keeravani music (songs& rerecording)is first class.NTR Yamudu getup lo kanipinchinappudu Dana Veera Sura Karna lo Duryodhanudu ki vadina background score ni recreate chesaru Keeravani.
The movie is visually rich and colourful.Yamadonga is one of the most expensive film in Tollywood History.Normal ga producers pettina expenses screen meedha complete ga kanipinchedhi rare cases lo.we can see it in Yamadonga.it is possible by coordination between art(creative&huge sets by Anand Sai)-camera(excellent lighting done by cinematographer Senthil)-styling(Rama Rajamouli) departments.Graphics bagunnayi.
Mamata Mohandas,who was ousted from two big films earlier,proved those film makers are wrong.She proved her talent in Yamadonga,she looks cute.Priyamani is Ok.
Comedians-Brahmanandam,Ali,MS Narayana,Raghubabu done their job well.
And above all--It is Legend NTR's appearance for 2 minutes got the biggest applause.NTR appears in Gajadonga getup.It's a feast for Nandamuri fans to watch Legend NTR and NTR jr. dancing for lyrics Aanati Ramudu,eenati Manavadu...Animation,compositing,dialogues everything were well done.

Side lights:
Story wise goppa cinema emi kadhu.
Lengthy film(3hours).
The pace was down a couple of times in the second half,but bore anipinchadhu.Director dramatised the screenplay towards the climax to add a bit weight to the subject(Fun alone,like Yamagola,can't survive these days).This might leave a feeling to some sections of audience a bit let down compared to the first half which is totally entertaining.
Much expected O lammi thikka reginda...song was a let down visually.situation and picturisation are not upto the mark.

Movie got HIT talk among Fans..as well as Common Audineces

The stamp – An SS Rajamouli film – suits Yamadonga from all angles. The Telugu audiences have so far seen only one side of Yamalok. Here, Rajamouli presents it with his unique imagination. Entertainment is his buzz word. The combination of Mohan Babu and NTR has definitely proved a rocking commercial element.

Synopsis

Raja (NTR) is a hardcore thief and he can do anything to achieve his target. Several biggies hire his services. One fine day, the heiress to Rs. 250 crore zamindari legacy Mahi (Priya Mani) comes to his custody while being chased by the villains (her own relatives). NTR is about to take the ransom by handing over the girl to her killers, when he suddenly gets killed. He goes to Yamalok and is engaged to neck and neck competition with Yama (Mohan Babu). After a winsome streak, he returns to earth. Yama is desperate to take his life again to hell. But, he himself is so moved that he is all happy to see the young man escape death. Watch this superb socio-fantasy for yourself.

Artistes’ Performance

A slim NTR is simply surprising on the screen, but it might turn hard for some to digest the sudden change. Compared to his previous films, NTR has totally changed his diction, body language and everything. In the stunts and dance sequences, he pumped in maximum energy. His dialogue delivery has all the punch to enliven a socio-fantasy entertainment like this. The audiences are also made attentive to hisThe audience are also made attentive to his new hairdo. Anyway, leaving the thread of rough and tough charcters, NTR seems to have made his debut into an altogether mixed genre of entertainment like this.

Mohan Babu gave a new dimension to the characterization of Yama. As and when the film rolls down on the screen, there is a big expectation about his entry in the theatre. The introduction scene of Mohan Babu in the yamalok set is terrific. Unlike previous treatment of showing Yama on earth, Mohan Babu brought all grandeuer to the character. There is immense response when the director unfolds the viswaroopam of Yama through Mohan Babu. His inimitable dialogue delivery and ferocious looks and body language best suited the Yama character. At the same time, his adaptability to the different levels of entertainment strategies is amazing. SS Rajamouli's statement that he would have shelved making of Yamadonga had Mohan Babu not accepted to play Yama is fully justified. Mamta Mohandass plays the role as Yama (possessed) for nearly half-an-hour. The spell of Mohan Babu is so powerful that the audience simply forgets that they are watching a heroine

Priyamani is beautiful and played her role as an orphaned and victimized heir to a zamindar's legacy with total perfection.

Mamta Mohandas is cute and glamorous. She has ample footage in the second half as Yama (possessed).

It is not an exaggeration to say that Brahmanandam did the character of Chitragupta on the lines of Nabhootho Nabhavishyat. Ali appears as the hero's buddy and again gives an impression that he is the best pick for the role

MS Narayana's contribution as Yamalok inmate is hilarious. Raghu Babu, Jayaprakash Reddy, Siva Parvati played the comedy villains with all ease. Though much publicity was made about Rajiv Kanakala's role as Indra, it is limited to just one minute and that too forgettable immediately. Climax villainy by Narendra Jha is adequate and convincing.Preeti Jingania, Veda and Madhu Shalini appear as Apsarasas (Rambha, Urvasi and Menaka) and win the appreciation of the audience with romantic touch.The chain with dollar of Narasimhaswamy and the Yamapas can also be treated as two interesting characters in the film, though lifeless.

Technical Details
Rajamouli deserves high praise for his unique imagination and molded it into a wonderful socio-fantasy with logical conclusion! Repeat logical conclusion to a socio-fantasy! He brings in the maximum commercial elements to give a strong dose of complete entertainment. His screenplay and direction is all gripping, coupled with arresting narration. However, it gives a feel that the movie is slightly dragged just before concluding with punchy climax. Dialogues have special place in the movie. Much care is taken to give contemporary coloring to dialogue delivery. They are prosaic, but colloquial, yet delivered with grandeur. Some of the highlight dialogues.

Mohan Babu's mannerism of uttering his buzzword something like
"Bambola Jambha" makes one a curious listener. "Nyayaniki Anyayaniki, Dharmaniki Adharmaniki madhya jarige yuddamlo, goda meedha pillila unde vanni sala sala kaage noonelo veyyali."

NTR's lengthy flow of dialogues when he assumes the throne of Yama is a parody to late NTR's strategic dialogue in Dhana Veera Soora Karna about Kulam (Caste). His addressing the hell inmates as "Naa Priyamaina Naraka sodharulu and Naraka sodharimanulu". Healthy comedy pervades all through the film. Conducting of elections to the post of Yama; treating the sinners as voters; deployment of apsaras to woo them; and NTR's imitating late NTR's election strategies like promising Rs. 2/- a kilo rice is hilarious.

All the songs are well canned. MM Keeravani's music is a great asset to the film. The music experienced in the theatre is different from the mere listening to the audio. The background score is superb.

Visual effects are of impressive quality. The soul of NTR, Yama appearing from the thin air, NTR's steep fall from Yamalok to earth and Yamapasam chasing NTR are worthy.

Though its a socio-fantasy, the stunts are done in real and effective mood and with all seriousness, retaining one of the major commercial masalas of Rajamouli.

Yamalok Set: The Major highlight of the film is Yamalok Set. It has surpassed the expectation of the audiences by many folds. The quality can be compared to any costly Hollywood film. The impact is such that the importance of Swargalok is completely lost.

Cinematography is excellent. Production values of Sri Viswamitra Creations are amazing.

The movie is opened to unanimous hit talk as a clean family
entertainer. A must watch for all.
